Emily

Thomas Mewis was born 6 July 1782 in Hinckley, Leicestershire to Thomas and Elizabeth Mewis.  Sarah Rachel Faux was born 7 April 1793 in Aston, Warwickshire and is the oldest child of Richard and Elizabeth Faux.   They married on 15 December 1814 in the parish of St Martin, Birmingham, and are my great great great great grandparents.

Of their family of 13 children at least six of them did not make it to adulthood.  The whole family were: Henry Thomas (1815-1831), William Richard (1816-?), my great great great grandmother Emela Catherine (1818-1906), Sarah Ann (1819-?), Eliza Clara (1821-?), Juliana (1822-1823), Charles Frederick (1823-1823), George Edwin (1825-1907), Mary Anne (1826-?), Ellen Julia (1828-1828), Alfred 1828-1875), Charles (1830-1831) and finally (Francis 1832-34).

Their first four children: Henry, William, Emela and Sarah were baptised at St Philip’s Church, in Birmingham (CofE) on 26 January 1820.

Thomas passed away 13 December 1844 at the age of 62.  According to census data Sarah Mewis lived with James and Emela Wareing, in Huntly Lane, Aston, after Thomas had died and shifted 4 kilometres south to Edgbaston to live with George and his wife Elizabeth sometime in the 1860’s.  Sarah passed away in March 1875 at the age of 81.
